Why the Jack Keefe Las Vegas Guide Exists
Las Vegas has a thousand "Top 10 Things to Do" articles. They all look the same — and most of them are out of date. The Mirage Volcano stopped erupting in July 2024. The Beatles LOVE closed with it. The Tropicana was imploded. If a guide is recommending those, it isn't a guide — it's a copy-paste. Jack Keefe Las Vegas is the opposite: a curated, dated, opinionated read on what to actually do in Vegas in 2026.

Five things that didn't exist five years ago
Jack Keefe’s five picks for what changed Las Vegas attractions since 2023. The Sphere opened in September 2023 and now hosts year-round residencies — Eagles, No Doubt, Phish, Kenny Chesney — plus the immersive film The Wizard of Oz at Sphere through August 2026.
Universal Horror Unleashed at AREA15 is the first permanent year-round Universal horror experience. Four haunted houses: Universal Monsters, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Blumhouse's Exorcist: Believer, and Scarecrow: The Reaping. Open Thursday–Sunday only.
F1 Grand Prix Plaza reopened January 30, 2026 with F1 DRIVE — a 1,470-foot karting track with 22 turns, plus an upgraded F1 X 4D theater. North America's first official F1-branded karting.
Resorts World finished its full build-out, Fontainebleau opened in late 2023, and Zoox now runs autonomous ride-hailing between Sphere, Resorts World, AREA15, and Wynn.

The Sphere is the Largest Spherical Structure Ever Built
366 feet tall, 516 feet wide, 1.2 million programmable LEDs on the exterior. Inside, the 16K wraparound screen makes it the closest thing to a holodeck currently operating. It opened September 2023 with the U2 residency; in 2026 it hosts Eagles, Backstreet Boys ("Into the Millennium"), No Doubt's reunion, Kenny Chesney, Phish, Illenium, Carín León — plus the year-round immersive film The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, now extended through August 2026.
Jack Keefe’s take: Sphere tickets price by row distance and viewing angle. Mid-bowl center is the best balance of immersion and full-frame view; lower bowl side-rows can crop the edges of the screen. Arrive 45 minutes early — the pre-show on the exterior LED is worth catching.
If you can't get a residency ticket, the Atrium Tour and the immersive films (Postcard from Earth, V-U2, Wizard of Oz) are individually ticketed and run year-round. Verify the schedule on the official site — residencies rotate every few months.

Three heights, three views
Three observation decks frame Vegas from three completely different perspectives. STRAT puts you above everything — Nevada's tallest occupiable structure. High Roller gives you a slow 30-minute panoramic loop in a climate-controlled cabin. Eiffel Tower at Paris drops you mid-Strip with the Bellagio Fountains directly below.
STRAT SkyPod rises to 1,149 feet, making it the tallest structure in Nevada. It’s famous for its thrilling rides at the very top, as well as breathtaking panoramic views that are especially stunning at sunset.
High Roller, standing at 550 feet, is the tallest observation wheel in the United States. The ride lasts about 30 minutes as the cabin completes a full loop, making it perfect for groups and social gatherings. Guests can also enjoy drinks on board, adding to the experience.
Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas reaches 460 feet. Located in the heart of the Strip, it offers a central vantage point with spectacular views, including the iconic Bellagio Fountains directly below.

How many days do you need to see the Vegas attractions?
Most first-timers find 3 to 4 days is the sweet spot for attractions plus dining and a show. One day works if you focus narrowly (Sphere + Bellagio Fountains + dinner + one show), but you'll feel rushed. A full week is excessive unless you're including day-trips to Hoover Dam, Red Rock, and Valley of Fire.
What's the best Vegas attraction off the Strip?
For most visitors, the Mob Museum in Downtown delivers the highest information-per-dollar — it's the rare Vegas attraction that's actually about Vegas. The Neon Museum at night is the visual standout. AREA15 (technically off-Strip) is the cultural anchor on that side of the city.
Is the Sphere worth it?
Yes — but the experience varies sharply by ticket. The immersive films (Wizard of Oz, Postcard from Earth, V-U2) are uniformly excellent and well-priced. Music residencies are extraordinary but expensive ($400-$1,500+). Jack Keefe’s recommendation: avoid lower-bowl side rows — they crop the screen edges. Mid-bowl center is the best balance.
Universal Horror Unleashed — when is it open?
Thursday through Sunday only. Closed Monday through Wednesday. This catches many visitors off-guard — the attraction is permanent and year-round, but it operates on a four-day schedule. Verify the current operating calendar on the AREA15 site before planning your day around it.
Are AREA15 tickets included with entry?
No. AREA15 entry is free — you can walk in, eat, drink, and look around without paying anything. Each individual attraction (Omega Mart, Universal Horror Unleashed, John Wick Experience, etc.) is separately ticketed. Buy them in advance for the date and time you want — they sell out, especially on weekends.
What recently closed in Vegas?
Major losses since 2024: The Mirage (closed July 2024, reopening as Hard Rock Las Vegas in 2027), the Volcano show in front of it, and The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil. The Tropicana was imploded in 2024. Zumanity at NY-NY permanently closed. Many guides still list these — they shouldn't.
Best Vegas attraction for kids under 10?
Adventuredome at Circus Circus is the most kid-friendly — indoor amusement park with rides scaled across ages, climate-controlled (essential in summer), and one of the few Vegas attractions designed primarily for younger children. Shark Reef Aquarium and the Discovery Children's Museum are close seconds.
Best free attractions in Vegas?
The Bellagio Fountains (every 15-30 minutes, 8 PM-midnight peak) and the Bellagio Conservatory (seasonal botanical display, changes 5+ times a year, open 24/7) are the headliners. Add the Fremont Street Experience canopy, the Wynn Lake of Dreams show, and Vegas-sign photos for a full day of free programming.
